The official taxi counter posts fixed zone prices. Ride-hailing pickup is at the designated area; it is usually cheaper than the counter, but fares are dynamic. Then drive south to Uluwatu, 45 to 60 minutes.

Suluban Beach, the climb down

Climb down the cliff stairs past the surf shops to a cove where the waves break against the rocks and the warungs sell cold drinks above the spray.

Uluwatu Temple at sunset

The temple at sunset is a scrum, so do not go for the temple. Go for the dance: seventy chanting performers, fire, and the sun dropping straight into the ocean.

Day 2
ULUWATU

The Slow South.

The Bukit Peninsula's coves are the reason you came south. Small beaches, big cliffs, and the island's best roast pork.

Padang Padang at midday is a small cove that fills by late morning. Thomas Beach is ten minutes further down the coast and usually much quieter.

Babi guling at Pak Dobiel, Nusa Dua, by the toll gate. This is the dish the whole island is built around, so start early and start here.

Nyang Nyang, the empty one
